Traceroute is a network diagnostic tool that shows the path packets take to reach a destination. Each hop represents a router or network device along the way, and response times reveal latency at each point in the path.
Green response times (under 50ms) indicate fast connections.
Yellow times (50β150ms) are moderate.
Red times (over 150ms) may indicate congestion or long distances.
MTR combines traceroute and ping into one continuous test. Instead of a single probe per hop, it sends several packets to every hop and reports packet loss and latency statistics for each one β much better for spotting an intermittently flaky hop that a single traceroute would miss.
